Designs of Solder Cup Pogo Pin Connector

Thanks to this convex ring, Pogo Pins do not fall off from the insulating plastic during solder. But it also made the plastic mold more difficult, because we had to strictly control the tolerance of the two holes used to assemble the Pogo Pins within a very tight range. The Pogo Pins will fall off if the hole is too big and the retention force is too small. If the hole is too small and the retention force is too big, the housing will break.

The pitch of this connector is very big, reaching 18.6mm, which is also consistent with the pad pitch on the PCB. The insulating plastic parts are produced by injection molding. The plunger and barrel are machined by a precision CAM machine. These parts have strict quality control during the production process to ensure that they meet the design requirements.

Use Case Completed

Because the soldering of the connector was to solder an end of the cable into the tail pin, the difference between the solder cup connector and the general pogo pin connector was that its tail pin was usually drilled and milled with Rangle. This design could increase the strength of the soldered wire and make the connection between the cable and the tail pin more firm.

In order to facilitate the follow-up soldering cable of customers, during product assembly, the R angle direction at the tail pin of two barrels needed to be consistent, and the housing was completed through open mold injection molding. The center pitch and hole size of the barrel need to be measured for incoming materials.
