Use Case of Through Hole Pogo Pin Connector

The case was describing a through hole pogo pin connector used in a precise CCD module from an electronics stock company Sunwoda Group, based on the customer’s requests, it was a 4-pin connector to realize the function of signal transmission. On whole, it needed to meet its purpose to reduce power consumption, reduce volume and save cost.

The material was brass, the plating was Au, the cap was needed and it was material of HTN with the housing, and the rated voltage & current was 12V DC, 1.2A. the salt spray was 48 hours passed.

Our Engineer Started To Study The Case

Based on the requirements of the precise CCD module and customer, we finalized the 4-pin structure of the through hole pogo pin connector, its bottom provided a positioning column.

When soldering, the product was inserted into the positioning hole of the PCB. the structure was very easy to firmly weld without any risk of deviation. The through hole pogo pin connector was generally formed by riveting the plunger, the barrel, and the spring into a single pogo pin through an automatic riveting and crimping fixture, and then installing it on the housing. So, the material of the plunger and the barrel was brass, the plating of the plunger was Au 50U” min over 80~150U” Ni, the plating of the barrel was Au 10U” min over 80~100U” Ni, the material of the spring was SUS304, the housing was HTN.

Our R&D Engineer Design For the Case

The length of the barrel was 11.25mm together with the tail pin, on the barrel body, we also designed a chamfer to enhance the engagement force between the single pin with the housing and to avoid any falling off. the hold depth of the barrel was 4.2mm and the inner diameter was 0.14mm, the wall thickness of the barrel opening was 0.28mm, the flange diameter was 2.3mm and its height was 0.5mm.

For the 4Pin through hole pogo pin connector with a single pin pitch of 3.0mm, the housing was made by open mold injection molding, and the barrel was processed by a CAM machine. The housing needed to focus on controlling the size of the hole diameter and the pitch between holes, and the barrel also needed to focus on controlling the size of the chamfer, because these sizes affect the assembly.
